Lyric Of The Moment.

"I got my feet on the ground and I don't go to sleep to dream. You've got your head in the clouds and you're not at all what you seem. This mind, this body and this voice cannot be stifled by your deviant ways. So don't forget what I told you, don't come around, I got my own hell to raise."
- Fiona Apple

Quote Of The Moment.

"I’m doing it for where I came from being the only dude in my class that dressed in a certain way, and then finding there’s other people who think like me too, they just weren’t in my school. And I think that’s what the FADER kids are made of, people who were different or wanted something better than what was the norm. But I had to come to the realization, it wasn’t just the search for something different, but something better, a better solution. I never forget that. "

The Virgins.

The Virgens.
The classic story of good music gone mainstream and overly produced. Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking the group at all. I love them, it's just I have a few thoughts regarding their self titled album, The Virgens. About a year ago an EP came out and there was a particular song that resignated with most fans that goes by the name of Rich Girls. Its fresh, raw, and simple. I think they're a little bit like The Strokes only not as noisy instrumentally, and a little more mellow vocal wise. They're the kind of band that makes it look easy to sound as smooth and controlled as they do in most of their songs. Their lyrics seem to roll right off of lead singer Donald Cumming's tongue. But once you fast forward to 08', a year later their studio album comes out and its like listening to two totally different bands. It sounds as if some big time music mogal got ahold of their music and made it more "commercial" and my least favorite term of all time, "radio friendly" OK, so, it's not the worst music I've ever heard in my life, it's just dissapointing. Sometimes big wigs in the music industry think they have to try too hard to get people behind their acts, when really, we just want music that doesn't sound so forced. The one good thing about the album is that it includes the Demo/EP versions along with the newly recorded songs. But even still, I am behind the band itself, it's just the "synthesizers and distorted guitar riffs" found on their studio album makes me appreciate the EP even more. They re-did an album version of Rich girls and I guess in theory it doesn't sound that much different, but when you've heard the older version first.. it seems like theres something missing. No? Well I guess you can decide for yourself I suppose.

Hot Like Wow.

So last night I was on iTunes and I ended up downloading the Nadia Oh album Hot Like Wow. And I think the title is a pretty good fit. Lately I've been getting into the dance/club type scene. I had been planning to cop this for awhile so I knew what I was getting myself into. Some might say the music isn't anything too "original" or "fresh" but I like her style. On a few of the tracks Space Cowboy is featured and of course that is a formula for an enjoyable sound. Though some songs tend to sound like the others, it's definitely not a bad thing. Atleast not for me, I like her vibe so I could listen to as much of it as possible. She sounds like a cross between Lady Gaga and Daft Punk. Only, a little more hip-hop then Gaga, and not as vocal.Nadia considers herself "Ghetto Tech", atleast according to her myspace (http://myspace.com/NadiaOh). The track that suckered me in was Got Your Number, which I think is the standout on the whole album. Some might have recalled it being on a season 1 episode of Gossip Girl. So far I'm a fan of My Egyptian Lover, Hot Male, Rip It Up, and Bounce. She can border on Techno and 80's "Dance Groove" sometimes, but over all I'd say 8 out of 10.

808's & Heartbreak.

So I'm a huge kanye fan, and needless to say I'm a tad dissapointed. AND, I'm only a tad because I'm not exactly surprised that I'd feel this way about his fourth album. I'd been hearing alot of buzz about 808 for awhile and it seems that it wasn't wrong. Though it is only the first day it has come out, and I've only had a quick listen I wouldn't call it a flop. It's just ok. But sometimes its takes a little time for me to warm up to songs so we'll see how it goes. I'll update later as I listen to it as days go by. But so far it's lukewarm feelings.
